Job Description
Role Purpose
The Quality Excellence Manager is responsible for ensuring customer expectations are exceeded by adopting and implementing a proactive approach. You will lead the management and development of the Plant Quality Team, with safety at the forefront of all your decisions, “best in class”, whilst providing an environment that supports continuous improvement to ensure that we achieve our manufacturing and sustainability ambitions.
This role will be fundamental in implementing Quality Risk Reductions and ensuring robust preventative actions. Furthermore, the Quality Excellence Manager will be required to develop the Quality and wider operational teams to ensure robust RCA’s are driving improvement, whilst developing Quality Culture, leading to Quality Excellence.
Working together with the Head of Quality and Laboratory to create the path to excellence, challenging non-value add processes, while excelling in customer centricity (internal and external). In conjunction with the Head of Quality, the Quality Excellence Manager will translate the 5-year Group Quality strategy into detailed annual strategies.
In addition to managing the Plant Quality team, consisting of - Technicians, Engineers and a Quality Improvement Leader. You will also work in close collaboration with the following departments - Health and Safety, Sustainability and Innovation, Production Operations, Engineering, Technical, associated Quality & Laboratory functions, Sales and Accounts Management to ensure the delivery of a robust quality management system.
Key Accountabilities
- Problem-solving approach to guarantee the integrity of quality assurance.
- Audit of all internally produced products to technical specifications, meeting the defined quality standards & systems required.
- Being an advocate and aiding the development of strong Health & Safety practices and culture.
- Actively leading quality culture maturity, leading to excellence, via a measured program.
- Creating a proactive culture within Quality that is data driven to provide clear objectives and focus.
- Actively leading to ensure Quality KPI’s (while developing these metrics) are met and support other functional KPI’s are required.
- Ensure that company procedures and processes are adhered to and improved upon, whilst meeting the compliant standards for IATF16949, AS9100, ISO9001 (or others as defined by the business).
- Quality Control Management including (but not exhaustive): product compliance and verification against internal and customer specifications, confirmation of product and process controls, colour confirmation, consistent application of quality management protocols and development, quality performance statistical data analysis, management of corrective actions (5 Why's, Global 8D, Ishikawa, FMEA), delivery of PPAP/PSW approvals of all products.
- Management, allocation and development of appropriate Quality resource both proactive (continuous improvement) and reactive (containment).
- Managing and reporting to business stakeholders on Quality performance through accurate data analysis (Statistical analysis, PowerBI).
- Responsible for data gathering and analysis, problem solving, project management and delivering meaningful and relevant presentation events.
- Effectively uses external networks to identify best quality practices (“Quality Excellence”) and use this to drive improvements within all operations (Tanning, Dyeing & Finishing, Cutting & Final Inspection).
- Presents, facilitates and co-ordinates assigned Quality events.
- Training - Development and PDR management of Quality team members.
- Communicate internally and externally on quality performance.
- Ensuring Environmental and employee Wellbeing is achieved.
- Compliance with all legal and statutory requirements pertaining to Quality.
- Work across functions to ensure Quality performance.
- Delivery & development of a robust Quality Management System within production operations.
- Role model leadership behaviors which promote excellence & shape the company culture.
- Promote employee engagement through timely two-way communications regarding quality activities & initiatives.
- Progression of a succession & personnel development plan for Quality.
- Identify and eliminate internal & external risk factors (product / processes / practices).
- Advocate effective management of change, through clear ownership.
- Policies - all legal and statutory requirements by department. Whilst living the Company values and promoting health, safety and wellbeing, provide clear vision and leadership to the Team, as well as inspire, motivate and coach to help them develop new skills and support succession planning.
- Promote employee engagement through timely two-way communications, particularly delivering on key actions identified during employee engagement surveys.
- Recruitment and selection of staff when required with the support of HR.
- The performance management of employees when required with the support of HR.
Experience Desired
- A degree in a related discipline.

- Previous experience of operating within a senior level Quality role within manufacturing.
- Experience with statistical analysis, work measurement & process analysis.
- Programme & project management skills.
- Experience of developing & implementing meaningful KPI’s, targeting key areas of improvement, enabling the ability to celebrate success.
- Experience of dealing with Customers & Suppliers.
- Quality Management experience - minimum 5 years.
- Understanding of Power BI and be able to develop reports within.
Location
Predominately based at our Bridge of Weir site, however, will be required to support and travel to our sites based in Glasgow and Paisley (Cutting Plant).
