Job Description

Role purpose:

 

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Engineering Operations Manager will be responsible for the maintenance of all of the Scottish Leather Group manufacturing assets across all locations.

 

This role will partner closely with the Head of Engineering and Operations Director to ensure maximum uptime of all manufacturing assets, continuing the development of our planned and predictive maintenance programmes and developing the Teams’ skills to meet this challenge.

 

Key accountabilities:

 

Engineering Maintenance

 

  • Embed H&S culture of zero tolerance ensuring the policy is fully understood, owned and implemented by every individual – ensuring appropriate risk assessments are in place prior to activities.
  • Promote the use of T-Cards for near miss and hazard reporting – ensuring appropriate feedback and recognition to operators.
  • Lead a multi-skilled (mechanical, electrical, instruments, control systems) maintenance organisation that supports safe and reliable operations to achieve production targets.
  • Organise the Maintenance Engineering Teams, in conjunction with the two Engineering Supervisors, to maximise the operational availability of the manufacturing equipment.
  • Plan the implementation of the maintenance activity schedule, which will include a leading role in the periodic engineering shutdown activities.
  • Manage the use of third party contractors and suppliers to deliver value added maintenance work where considered appropriate.
  • Work closely with the Operations Team to improve equipment reliability, with a focus on critical manufacturing processes.
  • In conjunction with the Group Engineering Team, improve fundamental maintenance and reliability through a bespoke Reliability Centred methodology.
  • In conjunction with the Engineering Compliance Officer, ensure statutory compliance and inspection checks are adhered to.
  • Supervise the Maintenance Management System and develop KPIs to demonstrate Team performance (Plan Completion, Planned to Reactive work, OEE…).
  • Monitor and control the spend on engineering spares, overtime and external contractors.
  • Manage the stock of critical spares to ensure that materials are available to the engineers when required.
  • Contribute to improved efficiency and sustainability of processes and product designs, and to reduce waste.
  • Provide technical input to future project designs and conceptions.
  • Liaise with the Projects Engineering Manager to assist in the implementation of capital projects.
  • Continue an open and honest culture of communications within the engineering teams, always aligned to our core values.
  • Deliver optimum results by creating a can-do attitude through motivating and encouraging employees - Highlighting any training gaps.

 

Key Requirements

 

  • Degree in engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years experience in similar role
  • Experience of implementing an asset maintenance system
  • Experience in implementing RCM, TPM
  • Flexible thinking, including the ability to try new approaches when faced with challenges
