Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE

 

The Procurement Manager role is responsible for overseeing and managing the company’s procurement activities. This includes sourcing and purchasing the goods, services, and materials required by Scottish Leather Group while ensuring cost-effectiveness, quality standards, and timely delivery. This role involves negotiating contracts, managing supplier relationships, analysing market trends, and ensuring compliance with organisational and regulatory procurement policies. Leadership and people management skills are essential to lead and develop a team of Procurement professionals.

 

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Developing Procurement Strategies

  • Create a procurement plan that aligns with the organisation's goals and objectives.
  • Ensure cost-effective procurement of goods and services without compromising on quality.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
  • Forecast market trends to anticipate changes in supply and demand.

 

Supplier Management

  • Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers to ensure that the organisation works with the best vendors.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to secure favourable contracts and reliable service.
  • Conduct regular supplier performance evaluations and ensure compliance with agreed-upon terms and conditions.

 

Negotiation and Contract Management

  • Negotiate contracts to secure favourable terms and prices for goods and services.
  • Draft, review, and oversee the execution of supplier contracts, ensuring legal compliance and alignment with business goals.
  • Mitigate risks related to supply chain disruptions or contract breaches.

 

Budget and Cost Control

  • Manage the procurement budget and ensure the organisation's purchasing activities are within budgetary constraints.
  • Analyse spending patterns and optimise procurement processes to reduce unnecessary costs.

 

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant procurement regulations and internal policies.
  • Identify and manage risks associated with suppliers, products, or services, such as supply chain disruptions, financial instability, or quality issues.
  • Implement and enforce procurement best practices across the organisation.

 

 

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead and manage the procurement team, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster collaboration within the team and across departments to align procurement efforts with organisational needs.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and optimise team activity.

 

Technology and Process Improvement

  • Continuously assess and improve procurement processes to increase efficiency and agility.
  • Ensure that data on suppliers, purchasing activities, and contracts is up to date and easily accessible.

 

Sustainability and Ethical Sourcing

  • Promote sustainability by sourcing environmentally friendly products and working with suppliers that adhere to sustainable practices.
  • Ensure that all procurement activities comply with ethical standards, including fair labour practices and anti-corruption regulations.

 

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g. Finance, Operations) to align procurement activities with organisational priorities and ensure timely procurement of goods/services.
  • Act as the key liaison between internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure smooth communication and resolve issues promptly.

 

Reporting and Analysis

  • Monitor procurement metrics, produce regular reports, and present findings to senior management.
  • Use data analysis to make informed decisions regarding supplier performance, pricing trends, and market conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Procurement, or related field. Will also consider applications from those who are qualified by experience.
  • Professional certifications such as CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) or CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) are a plus.
  • Other certifications in procurement, contract management, or supply chain management can also be beneficial.
  • Extensive experience (typically 8-10+ years) in procurement, supply chain management, or related fields.
  • Previous experience in managing procurement teams and leading large procurement projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel for data analysis).
